CAN I PLEASE KILL YOU?

The steel table was cold against her back. This, added to the freezing temperature of the theatre and the fear that seemed to increase in her veins with every breath she took, made her shiver fiercely.
“I have to do this. I have to!” she kept muttering underneath her breath. Having convinced herself of the necessity of aborting the baby, she could not help but wonder why her chest hurt so much.
Looking around her at the lifeless grey walls, she wondered how many people had come here, how many young innocent girls like her had – and then she had to pause, because she could not call herself innocent anymore. Not after Paul.
Paul. She thought about the last time she spoke with him, the last time she saw him. He had been drinking and his eyes were glazed over. Those same eyes that used to give her butterflies, make her toes curl, those same eyes that looked like two orbs of fire when he was hovering over her… whispering her name in passion… she covered her eyes as she felt a flush of – she shouldn’t be feeling this way. Paul was a player; he had laughed at her and waved away her fears whenever she spoke about them, made them insignificant and groundless. And now; he had just shown her how shallow he was. She wanted to curse him; with all the anger, fear and hate she possessed, she wanted to pronounce something totally evil on him. And here she bit her lip. She could go on blaming Paul for the situation but her more honest side prevailed. She was as guilty as he was.
“Well, I’ll take care of this and never again,” she swore to herself. “But just this one time, I have to. Dad will kill me! And mum…”
She felt the tears begin to trickle down her cheeks as she imagined the hurt; the devastation her mother would feel to hear that her first child and only daughter; an undergraduate lawyer was pregnant. It would break her mother’s already fragile heart. Feeling her tummy, she felt some awe at the realization that another life was growing in there. And then she turned her head as a fresh wave of guilt invaded her heart. She took a sobbing breath as she wiped her tears, and then hushed as she heard footsteps approaching.
